| Background |
| The newest area in project management is the concept
of a project management "maturity model." Maturity models
have been successfully used to establish standards of organizational
and functional competency. Maturity models are designed to provide
a framework to guide and measure project management by enabling organizations
to assess their capabilities at any of the several levels of the model.
Typically, the higher the level of maturity, the better you are able
to plan and execute projects and deliver results. Tools and techniques
have been developed to help firms achieve progressively higher, and
so, better, levels of project management maturity. Complexity in the
model necessitates the use of consultants familiar with maturity model
concepts. |

| pmMaturity will
explain the concepts of maturity models, specifically as they relate
to principals of project management. We relate the Project Management
Institute's Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3©)
initiative and what is expected when released in late 2003. Our consultants
explain the existence of the various maturity models and help organizations
formulate strategies to take advantage of the concepts and practices.
Finally, we assist in advantageously positioning firms by enabling
policies to support eventual maturity model adoption. |
